History of Lefkada

Lefkada is remarkable for its history and archaeological sights.

 

At the entrance of the island is the castle of Agia Mavra, one of the most imposing medieval buildings in Greece.

Two kilometers east of the city is the ancient city of Lefkada, which was called Neuritus.

In the valley of Nydri and in the valley of Vassiliki are more archeological sights worth visiting. The Dukato cape is also a wonderful area to visit.

Some famous museums you can visit during your holidays in Lefkada are the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum of the Musical-Philological Group “Orpheus”, the Phonograph Museum, the Ecclesiastical Museum of I. Faneromenis, the Folklore Museum of “Maria Koutsohero” and the Folk Museum of Sfakiotes.
